KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 7): The outlook for Kuala Lumpur’s luxury hotel sector appears to be positive over the next 12 months with the 47th Asean Summit happening on Oct 26 this year and the Visit Malaysia 2026 tourism campaign, according to Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur general manager Herman Kemp (pictured).

“Last year was a record-breaking year for most five-star luxury hotels and most five-star business hotels in Kuala Lumpur. This year is the Asean conferences, so I am sure a lot of luxury hotels in October and November this year will do very well. Next year, there will also be the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, so there is a strong indication that business will be bullish,” said Kemp in an exclusive interview with City & Country after Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur’s opening ceremony on Thursday at the Merdeka 118 tower.

Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur consists of 252 guestrooms, inclusive of 27 suites. The hotel occupies floors 75 to 114 of the Merdeka 118 tower.

The presidental suite is 6,780 sq ft with one bedroom, a study, dining room, bar, kitchen, private entrance lobby, library and two living areas. The standard room is 570 sq ft.

Kemp stated that Hyatt Hotels Corporation is very confident in Malaysia’s premium hospitality market, with the increase in tourism and the improvement of Malaysia’s economy, following the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Asean Summit is a biannual meeting between the heads of state or government of Asean member states to discuss key regional issues and to make decisions on matters relating to economic, security, political and socio-cultural development. This year’s Asean Summit will be happening in Kuala Lumpur.
